Nick, great question. I did learn that you can add a bunch of social sites, such as Twitter, Facebook, Yelp, YouTube, Quora, your blogs, or other sites into your profile and have them connect, however, from what Rand said, it seems as though only Twitter and very few Quora results have added any assistance to their search results when browsing for people. As for anything beyond that, I am unaware of any other sign-in or API services. I’ll dig around and see if I can find out for you. Hope this is helpful!

But really this functionality is contingent on a user having filled out their public Google profile. Search for Rand and you’ll see Fishkin’s profile, but he had to go in and populate that data. Why should users be expected to manage yet another social profile?

For example, what about LinkedIn Profiles? They’re public, right – why not pull up professional profiles and include them in the results — the public LinkedIn profiles don’t even have to be associated with Google Accounts. Or even simple Twitter profiles (not tweets, just the one-liner-description people provide with their account).

While I like the idea of this feature, I just don’t understand why users would be expected to fill out yet another public, social, searchable (etc) profile.

As a tangent: is there any mention of incorporating other platforms’ sign-in and/or API services to generate Google profile data?

I won’t use it for my personal account but I likely will for my client’s accounts that I manage on Twitter. I think having these sorts of alerts may prove to valuable in managing specific campaigns like contests etc. that are run on Twitter. Only time will tell what true value it provides though.

only problem right now is you cannot disable it in the native twitter iPhone app. I havent tried others and I’m sure this will be fixed shortly

Dave beat me to the punch with this. I too tried Zaarly yesterday with a post that said “Tell my wife you love her for me!” Minutes after I posted it, I had received 5 offers. The guy who accepted though backed out so I’m going to have to pick from one of the other 4 offers.

The service seems legit. They are in the same predicament as most though: in order for their service to work well, they need a lot of people to join and post credible things that people want or need.

Keeping my eye on this one for sure!

This is a fun service. I was browsing the offers at launch and I can see myself using this. I also found that @ZaarlySeattle has a feed for new opportunities as they arise at @ZaarlyFeedSEA.
